# HD PMI: Class 7–8 Inspections, Measured and Documented

Heavy Duty — Class 7–8

Three nested tiers for Class 7–8 tractors — Dry, PMI-A, and PMI-B — plus a straight oil change when that's all you need. Every PMI includes the complete 75-point inspection. Brakes get measured, not eyeballed. Every result lands in TruView.

## Heavy-Duty Inspections Nobody Can Argue With

Class 8 inspection quality is wildly inconsistent across vendors. Checkboxes get ticked without a wrench ever coming out. Then a roadside inspection finds what your last PM missed.

- **Unmeasured brakes** — "inspected" means someone looked at them, not that anyone put a ruler on them
- **No proof** — a signed sheet tells you nothing about what the components actually looked like
- **Scope drift** — you ask for an inspection and get an open-ended repair bill
- **Shop downtime** — a tractor sitting in a bay is a tractor not earning

## Nested Tiers. Fixed Boundaries.

The tiers nest. Dry is the 75-point tractor health check with no fluid service. PMI-A is everything in Dry plus a lube, oil, and filter minor service. PMI-B is everything in PMI-A plus the major-service items. And when all you need is an oil change, we do that as a standalone visit.

Limited scope by design. You know exactly what you're buying before a tech opens a hood, and anything found outside the tier's boundary is documented for you to act on — never added to the invoice without your say-so.

### Tier Scope Comparison

| Scope | Oil Change Only (Service only) | Dry (Inspection only) | PMI-A (Minor service) | PMI-B (Major service — most comprehensive) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inspection points | None — service only | 75-point | 91-point — the full Dry inspection, plus service points | 105-point — everything in PMI-A, plus more |
| Coverage | Tractor only | Tractor only | Tractor only | Tractor only |
| Fluid service | Oil and filter change, plus chassis lube | None — health check, not a PM | Lube, oil, and filter — minor service | Major service — everything in PMI-A, plus more |
| Notable extras | Fastest visit on the menu — in and out | Vendor-ready health-check report | Complete Dry inspection built in — steering, suspension, wheel-end, and driveline included | Fuel filter replacement, air-dryer desiccant service, wheel-end service, cooling-system pressure test, and gear oil — drain and refill if needed |

Brakes are measured on every tier — Dry included. Standard scope is tractor-only; trailer inspection and service is quoted separately.

**How pricing works:** fleet size, location, cadence, and tier mix set the number, so we scope it in a discovery session instead of posting a figure that won't hold.

## Custom Dry Routes: Watch the Fleet Between PMIs

A PMI tells you how a tractor looked on one day. Everything that happens between PMIs, you find out about from a driver — or from a roadside inspector.

So beyond the traditional PMI cycle, we run Dry inspections as a recurring route — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Same 75-point tractor scope, same measured brakes, on a rhythm you set. That is continuous fleet-health surveillance between your scheduled PMIs, not a cadence picker for PMI-A or PMI-B.

Every route stop is worked on-yard by W-2 heavy-duty technicians, and every result goes into [TruView](https://www.helloslick.com/truview) the same day.

- **Weekly** — Highest-visibility option. Good for high-mileage linehaul tractors where a week is enough time for something to change.
- **Biweekly** — The middle setting. Catches wear trends between PMIs without putting a tech on your yard every week.
- **Monthly** — A steady baseline read on tractor health so nothing sits unlooked-at until the next scheduled PMI.

## Why Fleets Run HD PMI

An inspection is only worth what you can prove from it.

- **Measured, Not Eyeballed** — Pushrod stroke and lining thickness measured on every axle, on every tier — including Dry. Numbers go in the report, not checkmarks.
- **Limited Scope by Design** — You know exactly what you're buying. Each tier has a defined point count and a defined boundary. Anything outside it gets documented — never quietly added to your invoice.
- **Documented in TruView** — Photo and video evidence on every inspection point that matters. Pull up any tractor's history in seconds.
- **On Your Yard** — Tractors stay where they are. No bay time, no shuttle driver, no day lost to a two-hour inspection.
- **Custom Dry Routes** — Run Dry inspections on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly route between PMIs for continuous fleet health surveillance.
- **Heavy-Duty W-2 Techs** — Class 8 work done by Slick employees trained on heavy-duty systems — not a subcontracted mobile outfit.

## How HD PMI Works

Four steps. Defined scope. Nothing bolted on without your say-so.

### 1. Pick a Tier

Dry for a health check with no fluid service, PMI-A for the minor service — it includes the complete Dry inspection — and PMI-B for the full major service. Just need an oil change? We offer that as a standalone visit. We'll help you map tiers to your mileage intervals.

### 2. Set the Cadence

Schedule PMIs against your intervals, and optionally add custom Dry inspection routes weekly, biweekly, or monthly between them.

### 3. Inspect On-Yard

Heavy-duty technicians work the tier checklist on your lot — measured brakes, documented findings, photo and video evidence throughout.

### 4. Report & Hand Off

Results land in TruView the same day — measured numbers, photos, and video. Anything outside the tier's scope is documented in full so you can route it to whoever does your heavy-duty repair work. If it looks like something we can take on, we'll say so and price it separately.

## Numbers, Photos, and Video — Not a Signed Sheet

A paper PMI sheet tells you someone was there. It does not tell you what the lining measured or what the airline looked like. TruView does.

Pushrod stroke and lining thickness go in as measurements. Every finding that matters gets photo and video evidence. Pull up any tractor's full inspection history in seconds, and hand a vendor a health-check report you did not have to rebuild by hand.

- Measured brake numbers, not checkmarks
- Photo and video evidence on every finding
- Per-tractor inspection history in one place
- Out-of-scope findings documented, not invoiced
- Vendor-ready health-check reports you can hand off

**Measured on all axles** — Pushrod stroke and lining thickness recorded as numbers on Dry, PMI-A, and PMI-B alike. Dry is every bit as rigorous on brakes as the service tiers.

**Proof you can forward** — Photo and video evidence attached to the findings, ready to send to a vendor, a lessor, or your safety director without a phone call first.

**Tractors stay on your yard** — No bay time, no shuttle driver, no day lost to a two-hour inspection. W-2 heavy-duty techs come to the truck.

## What We Do

The service menu behind every Slick engagement. HD PMI finds it; these keep it from coming back.

- [Inspections & Compliance](https://www.helloslick.com/services/inspections) — DOT inspections, DVIRs, and safety audits documented in TruView. Audit-ready, always.
- [Preventive Maintenance](https://www.helloslick.com/services/preventive-maintenance) — Scheduled oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations — the foundation of fleet uptime.

### Running Light and Medium Duty Too?

HD PMI is built for Class 7–8 tractors. For Class 1–6 vans and medium-duty trucks, you have two ways to buy.

- [Slick UpTime](https://www.helloslick.com/services/uptime) — Managed fleet maintenance — Class 1–6. We own your uptime with you. One monthly program covers your PM rhythm and prepaid corrective labor, with a coordinator who answers for it.
- [Slick PMI+](https://www.helloslick.com/services/pmi-plus) — On-demand mobile maintenance — Class 1–6. You tell us what you need, we roll the van. Per-visit work on your yard, documented in TruView, invoiced per visit.

## Slick HD PMI FAQ

### What's the difference between Dry, PMI-A, and PMI-B?

The tiers nest — each one includes everything below it. Dry is the 75-point tractor inspection with no fluid service — a health check you can hand to a vendor or use between PMIs. PMI-A (91-point) is everything in Dry plus a lube, oil, and filter minor service. PMI-B (105-point) is everything in PMI-A plus fuel filters, air-dryer desiccant service, wheel-end service, a cooling-system pressure test, and gear oil checks with drain-and-refill if needed. A standalone oil change — with chassis lube included — is also available when that's all you need.

### Is trailer work included?

Standard HD PMI scope is tractor-only across every tier — that keeps the visit fast, repeatable, and honestly priced. Tractor-side coupling is covered: fifth wheel, glad-hands, and the 7-way connector. If a trailer needs attention, we quote trailer inspection or service separately rather than folding it into the PMI.

### Are brakes actually measured?

Yes, on every tier. Pushrod stroke and lining thickness are measured on all axles and recorded as numbers in TruView. The brake scope is identical from Dry up — the tiers nest, so no tier skips it.

### What are custom Dry inspection routes?

Beyond the traditional PMI cycle, Slick can run Dry inspections as a recurring route — weekly, biweekly, or monthly — so you get continuous visibility into fleet health between scheduled PMIs. Every result goes into TruView.

### Do you do the repairs you find?

Usually not. HD PMI is an inspection product, not a heavy-duty repair program, and our corrective capacity on Class 8 is limited. Assume the deliverable is the documented finding — measured, photographed, and ready to hand to whoever does your heavy-duty work. If something does look like a fit for us, we'll tell you and price it separately. What we won't do is add work to an inspection invoice you didn't ask for.

### How much does each tier cost?

Pricing depends on fleet size, location, cadence, and tier mix. Book a discovery session and we'll price your specific fleet rather than quote you a number that won't hold.
